Immediately prior to the annual conference of the European Marketing Academy (EMAC), the 30th EMAC Doctoral Colloquium was held from May 21 to May 23 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The colloquium was organized by the European Institute for advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) and the EMAC in collaboration with the University of Groningen. Competition among all submissions for the available slots was fierce and Julian Allendorf from the Institute of Marketing was selected as one of 60 doctoral students among an overall of 136 applicants. As part of the intermediate/advanced marketing strategy track, he gave a presentation on “Retention and Turnover of Direct-Selling Distributors” which is joint research with Professor Anne T. Coughlan (Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University) and Professor Manfred Krafft. He received valuable feedback from his fellow doctoral students as well as from the track faculty Gary Lilien (Penn State University), Ajay Kohli (Georgia Institute of Technology), Raji Srinivasan (University of Texas at Austin), and Christophe van den Bulte (University of Pennsylvania, Wharton), who are renowned marketing experts. Besides the track sessions, the event also provided a great framework program with talks on how to publish in leading journals, starting a successful career in academia and the opportunity to meet fellow doctoral students as well as faculty members.
